Wake up early to a sunny west coast morning and enjoy our inclusive continental breakfast before taking the Vagabond Inn’s shuttle to the Sea and Air Terminal located at the San Pedro Harbor. If you prefer to use your rental car, parking at the terminal is available for an all day pass costing only $17, but . . . our shuttle is free. Upon your return from a venturesome day, we are waiting out front to get you back to the Inn for a relaxing evening. Tip: Leave the driving to us so you can continue to lap up the day carefree.
We will call The Catalina Bistro, located at the terminal, so they can prepare a gourmet picnic lunch. It will be arranged in a convenient, lightweight day pack and ready for you when you arrive at Pier 95. You choose your gourmet goodies from a menu offered in our lobby, and we call it in. Leave the pack in Catalina at one of several deemed locations and be hands free for the rest of your visit around the island.
Santa Catalina Island
This little piece of heaven is only twenty-two miles long and eight miles wide, but packs more into a small area than places ten times its size. Catalina appeals to the outdoor enthusiast with rugged to mild hiking trails, beautiful gardens, water sports and parks. You can wing a trip around the Island on your own or take advantage of the many tour operators who show you the places you might miss when going solo.
If you prefer to get your thrills indoors, casinos and gambling halls complete with top name entertainment are within an easy grab. For the hiking enthusiast choose between strenuous trails like the Avalon to Black Jack trek, or Hermit Gulch Trail Loop. The Black Jack is an all day affair that only those in excellent shape, and for those who are physically ready, the payoffs are big. The incredible solitude and serenity easily guides you into a state of bliss with amazing views of Pacific ocean blue.
For those who still like a challenge, but not a total take down go for the Hermit Gulch Trail Loop, which is moderate, but still offers views that take your breath away. If you want to see the back country try an off road jeep tour. If neither of these ideas appeals to the visitor, biking or a round of golf on a some of the greenest fairways in the world.
If you want to cruise the shops in harbor village you’ll find the ordinary to the extraordinary, and won’t want to leave without a keepsake of your time on Catalina. Don’t forget that picnic.

Among other activities you can choose from are museums, the ghost tours in Avalon, city historical tours on a Segway, try some zip lining, harbor activities that include boating, and when in season, whale watching.
